USAxit – USA Customers should expect border TAX :(
Just a very quick message to say products sent to the USA are now likely to be TAXED at the border.
For those of you who aren’t clued up on these things, up till now, USA customers have enjoyed TAX free products from most of the world. But as from the 5th (at time of typing) you get to endure the Canadian import experience. To be clear, I’m typing this from the information gained from the ‘News’, nothing yet has been proven, but unless something suddenly chances, USA customers should expect TAX at the border.
What to expect? Well things turn up at the border to the USA, UPS, USPS, DHL, Fedex etc are likely to send you what we call a ‘ransom note’. Basically, they’ll add handling fees + 10% TAX at the border for things from the UK (25% ROW). The handling fees are as yet unknown. But to go by the UK example, each package will be slapped with an additional £13-20 just for handling.
This all comes in on the 5th, I’m going to do my best to ship all USA orders tonight. But just please be aware that fees may be collected at the border.
Final words.. I might be able to improve the user experience of international shipping by charging your import fees at checkout, but the Brexit reality meant we can’t ship via packet post ‘duty paid’. So all orders will have to go via Express and that’s a cost some people are already unwilling to pay for.. let alone the added TAX’s + Handling fees. EG: pre-Brexit borders, could ship to the EU for £10-20 depending on service, now it’s £40-50.
